First you need to select a program to
browse the internet, the two most
common tools for this are Mozilla
firefox, and of coarse Microsoft Internet
Explorer.

Once you have opened the program you need to type into the address bar the following URL; "www.hotmail.com" and the hotmail sign in page should appear, here you need to locate the "Sign Up" button which will take you to the next step of the process.

In this page you may like to read the features of your mail account before continuing, when you are ready to proceed simply click the "Get it Free" button to continue.

This is often the most difficult part... choosing a name for you email account.
In this form you must include:
◘ What you would like your address to be.
◘ A password (That you can remember).
◘ Password Reset information (that you MUST remember, incase you forget your password).
◘ Some basic information about you, though you can just make this up it is recommended that you use your details so that they can e remembered.
◘ Finally you need to enter the security number from the image that is randomly generated for each user. This is simply to stop people taking all of the accounts with "bot" programs and you don't need to write this down or remember it.

Take a few minutes to read the difference between the classic style mail box and the new Live! version. Once you have chosen click on the corresponding link and your mail box will become active.

If you choose to use the classic style interface then you have now completed the process and may use your mail box.

If you choose to use the Live! version of the mail box there are a few more setting to complete before you gain access to the account.
You will first need to decide where (if anywhere) you would like your mail previw window to be placed. Once you have decided click "Yes i want the free Upgrade, and i have a fast internet connection." to continue. (Please note the service may be sluggish on slower connections and it is recommended that you use the classic style mail box on connections below 256kbp/s)

Now that you have decided where to place your preview pane the process is complete and you many now use the inbox as you so wish.
